A Quick HR Compliance Checklist for Growing Teams
As a company grows past certain headcount thresholds, new federal, state, and local obligations kick in — often without an obvious trigger or notice. Below is a starting-point checklist we walk through with clients.
Handbook & Policy
- Employee handbook reviewed within the last 12 months
- Leave policies reflect current state requirements (FMLA, PFML, sick time)
- Anti-harassment policy meets state-mandated training requirements
Compliance
- ACA reporting thresholds and deadlines confirmed for your headcount
- I-9 forms complete and stored correctly for every active employee
- Multi-state wage and hour rules mapped if you have remote employees
People Operations
- Onboarding and offboarding procedures documented
- Job descriptions current for open and existing roles
- Performance review cadence defined (90-day and annual)
This list isn't exhaustive — every organization's risk profile is different. If you'd like a tailored review, schedule a consultation.
